LONDON, Oct. 22, 2009 (Halal.com) .
Lord Patten, a conservative peer in the UK house of Lords, has asked the government on the impact of slaughter regulations in neighboring countries on the UK halal consumer.
In a written question to the government he asked 'what assessment they have made of the effects on consumers of halal meat of legislation in Norway, Sweden and Switzerland forbidding the slaughter of animals by throat-cutting.'
There is a raging debate in Europe over the extent of allowing halal and kosher methods of slaughter.
Lord Patten had frequently asked questions on the halal regulations. His questions go back as far 1999 when he had asked the government about the procedures for halal slaughter in the country. |
