The much-awaited Ghazipur abattoir, near the Indian capital of New Delhi, has finally become operational. After a delay of about three years, the MCD inaugurated it on December 10. The halal slaughtering however will start next month, reports the Indian Express.
When fully operational the facility will slaughter 3000 animals per day. The first of its kind in India, the slaughterhouse has been constructed using German technology that employs completely hygienic techniques for processing the meat. The entire system is mechanised, ensuring the proper disposal of animal excreta and waste body parts. The MCD also said during the trial period, 400 butchers have been trained for work at the slaughterhouse.
