HOUSTON, TX, June 11, 2009 (News Agencies) .
A marked increase in restaurants serving the Halal fare has been observed in Houston. There are more than seventy of them in the city serving a variety of food from Indian, Middle Eastern to Thai and Japanese fusion.
The Houston Chronicle reports that owners are happy as going Halal has increased their sales. The owner of Bonsai Fusion Japanese Steak House introduced Halal last October and the business has been so good he is contemplating opening a second location. In respect to Muslim sensitivities he has even removed all alcohol from the premises.
While independent restaurants are free to opt for Halal at any time similar is not the case with franschises. There are strict regulations with were the franschises can buy their meat from and this serves as a hindrance in catering to the Muslim customers.
