Question:
Is smoking permitted?
Answer:
Cigarette smoking is a major worldwide problem today. Smoking in just three seconds, makes a smokers heart beat faster, raises blood pressure, replaces oxygen in blood with carbon monoxide, and leaves cancer-causing chemicals to traumatize various body organs such as lungs, mouth, larynx, pharynx, esophagus, urinary bladder, etc. This damage keeps adding up with each smoking. The harmful effect of smoking is not only confined to the smokers but it also affects the health of other non-smoking individuals who inhale the hazardous constituents in the air produced by the smokers. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is reported to have said:Nor be hurted or injure others. The Quran ordains:Nor kill or destroy yourself, for verily God has been to you Most Merciful.Allah (S) knows best.
